* Student study support in conjunction with UCL.

* WellFair Project – a range of health related activities supported by the Big Lottery Fund to improve health outcomes in the Regent’s Park Ward.

Our modern offices, kindly provided courtesy of British Land and Camden Council, have meeting rooms available for hire. We welcome enquiries. We also operate a community facility, the Hpod, at Cumberland Market.

C4WS Homeless Project

C4WS Homeless Project has been operating in Camden for the last 12 years to support those experiencing homelessness. C4WS uniquely combines short term respite accommodation for those with nowhere else to go with long term holistic welfare that helps them begin the process of rebuilding their lives. The C4WS winter night shelter runs for five months each year and provides a temporary home for nearly 100 guests utilising 13 venues across the borough and the support of more than 700 volunteers. Staff work with each guest coming through the door to secure appropriate housing and support around issues that may have led to them becoming homeless and which may pose problems for them maintaining their new tenancy. In 2014 95% of those engaging with these services were successfully rehoused.

In addition C4WS also operates a weekly drop-in service in King’s Cross providing lunch and support to those in need in the local community, a weekly Jobs Club that assists those who are homeless in obtaining work, training and educational opportunities, English classes to improve written and spoken skills and a Mentoring Scheme in which trained volunteers become befrienders to those who are rehoused and support them with the transition to independent living.

Fitzrovia Youth In Action

Fitzrovia Youth in Action (FYA) is a youth action charity that empowers children and young people to overcome the barriers they face, fulfil their potential and create positive change in their local community.

FYA was launched in 1997 following the success of a community football tournament that brought together young people, adult residents and local business.

Over the last 15 years, the charity has grown into an organisation that offers children and young people a broad range of youth-led volunteering activities and employability support.

Every year FYA brings together and supports hundreds of disadvantaged children and young people in tackling the issues that matter to them in the community they care about. They take a “youth action” approach, ensuring children and young people are actively involved in each stage of our activities. Recent activities led by children and young people have addressed community cohesion, conflict, and substance misuse.

“Our vision is a society where children and young people can fulfil their potential and create positive change in their lives and community.”

Netley Primary School

Netley Primary school is a locally based primary school with over 430 pupils aged from 3-11years old. The pupils at Netley come from the local community and represent the wide range of social and cultural backgrounds typical of an inner-city school. This rich cultural background is greatly valued at the school, and the primary aim is to encourage every child to be curious, creative and challenged. Netley Primary is also home to The Woodlands, a resource base unit for children with autism.

The pupils’ voices are strong at Netley and are taken seriously by the teachers. Each year group (years 2-6) elect a male and female from their classes to make up the School Council. This council meets fortnightly and is an active voice in the decision process at the school.

The school works closely with local partners, such as British Land, the British Library, City Learning Centre, Addison Lee and Dentsu Aegis Media. The team at Regent’s Place have worked with Netley Primary for some years, carrying out a one-to-one numeracy skills programme with children who struggle with the subject.

The primary school is very much part of the local community, not just concerning the young pupils, but also with school-home support, providing parental guidance, help with the transition from Primary and Secondary School and information regarding financial and housing issues. Netley have now moved into their new building. Netley Campus, opened in September 2014. They share this site with the Adult Learning Centre (formally the Community Learning Centre) Robson House (a pupil referral unit) and NHS speech and language therapists.

We are always looking for more volunteers for all aspects of school life, including reading, numeracy, after school clubs and with our garden. If you are interested in taking part or would like more information on how you can get involved, please email [email protected]

The Food Chain

The Food Chain is a local charity which was set up to ensure that people living with HIV in London can access the nutrition they need to get well, stay well and lead healthy, independent lives.

They deliver meals and groceries, offer cookery and nutrition classes and communal eating opportunities to people living with HIV in London and their dependants. Every service user is referred by a health or social care professional, who has identified them in need of nutritional support. Each service user receives a Personalised Nutrition Care Plan designed specifically to meet their needs. The Food Chain employ a HIV Specialist Community Dietician to help tailor-make each diet plan.

The Food Chain was established in 1988 by friends of people living with HIV, inspired by American organisations. Set up in a time before effective medication was available, wasting was common, and good nutrition helped support the immune system and maintain a healthy body mass. The charity was granted funding by the Elton John AIDS Foundation to continue their work in the community.

In 2012 The Food Chain set up a permanent kitchen at Acorn House, near King’s Cross. This means access to the facility 7 days a week, and from here they run weekly Eating Positively and Eating Together sessions.

UCH Cancer Fund

The University College Hospital (UCH) Cancer Fund was established to enhance the services and environment for cancer patients, their relatives and carers and to give them a better experience during one of the most difficult times in their lives. We rely on voluntary donations to provide care and support above and beyond what the NHS is able to fund. Our particular focus is on raising funds for our Support and Information Service in the Cancer Centre which is located on Huntley Street. This service provides practical, emotional and social support which is offered free of charge to patients and their carers. Last year, the service received over 16,000 visits providing a range of services such as welfare and benefits advice, psychological support, complementary therapies, yoga, art therapy, creative writing as well as support groups for specific cancers.

As the majority of our patients come from central and north London, we are keen to reach out to companies in the local area and encourage them to support local residents who are living with cancer. We work with companies to create a bespoke partnership which will raise the company’s profile in the local area and engage staff in fundraising, teambuilding and volunteering activities.

If you would like further information about the UCH Cancer Fund please contact Margaret Ruttle at [email protected] or 020 3447 1884 or visit us.

St Mary Magdalene’s Church

St Mary Magdalene’s Church is a Grade II* Victorian gem which sits just behind the Regent’s Place campus on Munster Square.

Our main worship service is modern and reformed and is held at 11am every Sunday. All are welcome to join us as we gather to be fed, strengthened and renewed by Word and Sacrament in the mass – so that we can go out into the world to serve the Lord.

We are a vibrant worshipping community of peoples from all over the world who have come to live and work in and around Camden and we’re committed to making a difference in our community.
St Mary Magdalene’s has its own church school – Christ Church School, Redhill Street. The children regularly come to church for big celebrations.

The church has great acoustics and is blessed with a Yamaha Concert Grand Piano which is on permanent loan from Markson Pianos. Our building is a tremendous space for recitals and concerts, which are held regularly throughout the year. Musicians love the building not only for its glorious decoration and ambiance but for the peace and quiet afforded by a space like this in central London.

In the Crypt Centre, which sits beneath the church, there’s a wonderfully warm and comfortable space, with a kitchen, lift and other facilities. This is home to the Third Age Project, a few companies, a branch of Narcotics Anonymous and CODA and various other community groups.

The Regent’s Place team have close links with the church and its parish priest, Father Colin Coppen.
